Atkinson’s Tigers reported to campus on Tuesday for team meetings, gear distribution and a team retreat.
Towson is coming off a 23-9 record from a year ago. The Tigers went 10-4 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play last year and earned the third seed for the CAA Tournament.
The Tiger roster includes 11 letter winners from a year ago and five newcomers. Among the returnees are 2011 CAA Player of the Year, Katy Buck, and Aubrey Kirven, who earned All-CAA second team honors a year ago.
Buck returns for her junior year after a spectacular sophomore season. As the Player of the Year, she led the CAA in kills per set (4.04) and reached double digit kills in 28 of her 32 matches. Buck had 268 digs last season and recorded a “double-double” in nine matches. Kirven, who is one of six seniors on the Tigers’ roster, led the CAA in assists per set (11.55) last season.
Atkinson, Buck, Kirven and the rest of the Tigers will hit the court for their first match on Friday, August 24. Towson will face UMBC and St. John’s on day one of the Battle of the Bay Tournament hosted by Coppin State.
