SAN LUIS OBISPO, Cal. - In their first match of their West Coast trip, the Tigers dropped a 3-2 heart-breaker to host Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
The Tigers came within a putt of winning the match against the host school.
Matt Fry posted an impressive victory in his match, winning 3-and-1. Playing in his first college tournament, D.J. Honan also won, beating his opponent by 4-and-2.
However, Trevor Sluman lost his match, 2-and-1 while senior Justin Koehler lost on the 18th hole. When Joe Gunerman dropped his match on the 18th green, the Tigers suffered a heart-breaking loss.
Despite the loss, Coach Brian Yaniger was upbeat. He said, "We are a much different team than we were in the Fall. All the practice we've had is really paying off. Playing against a very good opponent, we put ourselves in excellent position to win."
The Tigers were scheduled to play South Dakota State in their second match on Thursday.
