TOWSON, Md. – Joe Mathews, head coach of the Towson University women’s basketball team, has announced that 6-1 forward LaTorri Hines-Allen has transferred to the Tiger program from Virginia Tech University.
Hines-Allen will have to sit out the upcoming season due to NCAA Transfer rules and will be eligible to compete for the Tigers starting in the 2013-14 season. She will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Tigers.
“LaTorri has an opportunity to have a tremendous impact on our program,” said Mathews. “She is an athletically gifted player with tenacity on the boards. The exciting thing about LaTorri is that she has so much more room for growth. A year to get stronger and learn will only make her better in the long run. Her BCS experience and success will make us a better team immediately.”
Hines-Allen started 26 of the 30 games she appeared in for the Hokies during the 2011-12 season. She averaged 26 minutes per game while contributing 5.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Hines-Allen had eight games where she recorded double-digit rebounds and pulled down a season-high 16 boards against Clemson. She also scored a season-high 17 points versus Florida State. Hines-Allen appeared in 23 games a freshman for the Hokies.
Hines-Allen played at Montclair High School where she led the Bulldogs to a state championship. She was the No. 88 recruit in the country coming out of high school and was ranked 15th among forwards.
