TOWSON, Md. – Rebounding the basketball can often prove to be an important part of the game.

The Towson University women’s basketball team had success during the 2011-12 season when forward Nyree Williams was able to get involved in the rebounding game.

The 6-1 Ellicott City, Md. native was in her first season of playing for the Tigers this year. Williams had to sit out the 2010-11 season after transferring to Towson from North Carolina. As a freshman for the Tar Heels, Williams had averaged 2.0 rebounds per game.

Williams got her Towson career off to a quick start, recording a “double-double” (points and rebounds) in three of her first four games. She had a season-high 13 points and 15 rebounds in the win over Cansius. Williams recorded double-digit rebounds in eight of the 12 non-conference games the Tigers played this past season.

Williams finished the season with 197 rebounds while grabbing five or more rebounds in 19 of the 28 games she played in. She finished the season averaging 7.0 rebounds per game, the 11th best average in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Williams was one of six Tigers to record over 100 rebounds this season. Her play allowed Towson to 38.7 boards per game, nearly 2.1 more rebounds per game then its opponents. Williams and the Tigers finished fourth in the CAA in rebounding margin during the 2011-12 season.

Williams will lead the Towson rebounding battle in 2012-13.
