TOWSON, Md. – Bucknell University used a 17-point halftime lead to post a 75-62 win over the Towson University women’s basketball team on Wednesday evening. The Tigers (4-5) were led by junior guard Tanisha McTiller’s 17 points.

Bucknell (6-4) hit four three-pointers in the game’s first 10 minutes to open up a 22-9 advantage. A 6-0 run by the Tigers made it a 22-15 game with 7:42 to play in the half. The Bison hit four more three-pointers during a 12-4 run which gave the visitors a 36-19 lead with 1:48 to go. The Tigers and Bison traded made free throws in the final 1:10 and Bucknell took a 38-21 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Tigers and Bison traded baskets over the first 10 minutes. Back-to-back jumpers gave the Bison a 58-36 lead with 10:11 to play. Shelby Romine connected on a jumper at 7:56 to give Bucknell a 64-36 advantage. It was the visitors’ largest lead of the game. A jumper from senior forward Michelle Peebles at 7:31 jump started a 17-4 run by the Tigers. That scoring streak by the Tigers cut the Bucknell lead to 68-53 with 3:14 to play. McTiller had a pair of three-pointers during that stretch. After Romine hit a pair from the charity stripe, freshman guard Dominique Johnson hit the first two three-pointers of her career to make it a 70-59 game with 1:58 to go. Bucknell went 5-for-6 from the foul line in the final minute and a half to seal the 75-62 victory.

Bucknell shot 38.1% from the field and was aided by making eight three-pointers in the game. The Bison went 18-for-19 from the foul line in the contest. The Tigers shot 40% from the field and made a season-high seven three-pointers. Bucknell out-rebounded the Tigers 46-30 in the game.

McTiller led the Tigers with her 17 points, all of which came in the second half. She added four assists with no turnovers in 33 minutes of action. Johnson contributed a season-high 11 points and two assists in her first game of the season. Peebles was the third Tiger in double figures with 10 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Sophomore forward Markell Smith led Towson on the boards with a career-high nine rebounds.

Bucknell placed four players in double figures and was led by Romine’s 20 points. Audrey Dotson led the Bison on the boards with 15 rebounds.

The Tigers return to action on Friday, Dec. 21 when they host Delaware State at 7 p.m.
