WILMINGTON, N.C. - Juniors Tanisha McTiller and Nyree Williams posted "double-doubles" to lead the Towson University women's basketball team to a 66-57 win at UNC Wilmington on Wednesday night. The Tigers (12-17, 6-12 CAA) closed out the regular season on a three-game win streak.

"We came out a little flat but were able to pull it together," said Towson coach Joe Mathews. "Alliyah Berger hit a couple of big three-pointers to get us going in the right direction."

UNC Wilmington opened the game on a 9-3 run, as Kelva Atkins hit a jumper at 15:40. A three-pointer from Berger at 15:17 jump started a 16-4 run by the Tigers. That scoring spurt gave the Tigers a 19-13 lead with 8:58 to play in the half. Berger hit three triples during that run by the Tigers. The two teams traded baskets as four straight points from Williams gave the visitors a 29-20 lead with 3:08 to play. Atkins scored five of the last seven points in the game to cut the Towson lead to 31-25 at the intermission.

The Tigers opened the second half on an 8-1 run to extend their lead to 39-26 with 16:52 to play. McTiller hit a pair from the foul line at 15:10 to give Towson a 43-30 advantage. Three three-pointers by UNC Wilmington (3-25, 2-15 CAA) cut the Towson lead to 45-39 with 12:03 to play in the half. The two teams continued to battle and trade baskets before senior forward Michelle Peebles converted a three-point play at 5:12. Peebles' points gave Towson a 59-47 lead in the game. A 10-3 run by the Seahawks cut the Towson lead to 62-57 with 1:01 to play. The Tigers went 4-for-6 from the foul line in the final minute to secure the 66-57 victory.

Towson shot 40% in the first half and 55% in the second half and finished the game shooting 46%. The Seahawks shot 37.9% in the first half, 36.4% in the second half and 37.1%. The Tigers finished the game with a 38-31 lead in the rebounding battle.

McTiller had 13 points and 11 rebounds for her eighth "double-double" of the year while Williams had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the "double-double." Peebles led the Tigers with 14 points while Berger scored nine.

Tawanna Lee led UNC Wilmington with 16 points and four assists.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, March 15 when the CAA Championship Tournament begins. Towson should be the seventh seed and play on Friday at 5 p.m.
