Loyola Defeats @Towson_WBB, 52-44

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Towson University women's basketball team had a strong second half but it was not enough to overcome a half-time deficit in a 52-44 loss at Loyola on Sunday. The Tigers (3-1) were led by junior guard Tanisha McTiller's 15 points.

The Tigers hit their first four shots from the foul line in the game. McTiller connected on a pair at 17:30 of the first half to give Towson a 4-2 advantage. Loyola (2-3) responded by scoring the next nine straight points to take an 11-4 advantage with 6:45 to play in the half. A pair of free throws from senior forward Michelle Peebles at 6:24 briefly broke up the run by the Greyhounds. Loyola responded by scoring 12 of the next 14 points to take a 23-8 lead with 3:04 to play. That proved to be the Greyhounds' largest lead of the game. Towson closed the first half on a 9-2 run to pull to within eight, 25-17 at the break. McTiller had five of the Tigers' nine points during that stretch.

Towson was held to a 12.5 field goal percentage in the first half but shot 76.9% from the charity stripe. McTiller led the Tigers with seven points. Loyola shot 47.6% from the field and 50% from the foul line. Towson held a 19-16 advantage in the rebounding battle.

After surrendering the first basket of the second half to Loyola, the Tigers used a 7-0 run to pull to within three, 27-24 with 15:57 to go. Loyola pushed its lead back to eight, 34-26 with 14:29 to go as Katie Sheahin hit a three-pointer for the Greyhounds. A triple by freshman guard Alliyah Berger at 10:05 capped a 12-2 run by the Tigers which made it a 38-36 game in favor of the visitors. Redshirt junior forward Nyree Williams had four points during that stretch.

The teams traded baskets as a McTiller jumper at 7:29 tied the game at 42-42. Loyola closed the game on a 10-2 run to seal the 52-44 victory.

Towson shot 42.3% from the floor in the second half and finished the game shooting 28%. The Tigers hit just 3-of-8 from the foul line in the second half but finished the game shooting 61.9% from the stripe. Loyola shot 33.3% from the field in the second half and finished the game shooting 39.6%. Towson won the rebounding battle for the fourth straight game as the Tigers finished the game with a 39-33 advantage.

McTiller added five rebounds, two assists and two steals to go along with her 15 points. Williams posted her second straight "double-double" for the Tigers as she had 10 points and 15 rebounds.

Sheahin led Loyola with 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists while Alyssa Sutherland had 12 points and five rebounds.

After two straight road games, the Tigers are back in action when they return to the Towson Center on Wednesday, Nov. 28. Towson will host Coppin State at 7 p.m.
