TOWSON, Md. - The Towson University women's basketball overcame a ten-point deficit for a 69-64 victory over Maine on Sunday in its final non-conference game of the year. The Tigers (6-5) had three players score in double figures led by freshman guard Dominique Johnson's 20 points.

"It's good to get a win to wrap up non-conference play today," said Towson coach Joe Mathews. "I thought we came out a little flat to start the game and didn't give Maine enough credit but we made the adjustments we needed to earn the victory."

Johnson, junior guard Tanisha McTiller and sophomore guard Ciara Webb turned in a strong second half performance which helped the home team secure the victory. The trio combined for 34 of the Tigers' 39 second half points.

The Tigers opened the second stanza on a 13-4 run to turn a five-point halftime deficit into a 43-41 lead with 16:43 to play. Johnson hit all three of her triples during that run while Webb added a three-pointer of her own. The two teams traded baskets over the next several minutes as three-pointer from Webb gave Towson a 51-48 lead with 11:04 to play. Maine responded with a 10-4 run of its own to take a 58-55 lead with 4:56 remaining in the game. Ashleigh Roberts led Maine with five points during that run. Following a timeout by the Tigers, Webb connected from behind the three-point line to tie the game at 58-58. The Tigers scored 14 of the final 20 points in the game to secure their second straight victory.

Maine (1-11) started the game on a 16-6 run as Danielle Walczak hit a lay-up at 10:04. Towson cut the visitors' advantage to 18-11 with eight minutes remaining on a Johnson lay-up. The Black Bears' lead fluctuated between nine and five points over the next four minutes. Towson trailed 28-26 with 4:02 to go in the half before an 8-2 run made it a 32-30 game with 23 seconds left in the half. Courtney Anderson connected on a three-pointer for Maine with 11 seconds left which sent the visitors to the half with a 35-30 lead.

Both squads shot 39% for the game from the field while the Tigers sank six three-pointers to Maine's four. Both teams grabbed 42 rebounds in the game.

Johnson added two steals, one assist and a block while putting up the first 20-point game of her career. McTiller finished with 15 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds for her first "double-double." McTiller also contributed six assists and two steals. Webb finished with 13 points while junior forward Nyree Williams had nine points and seven rebounds.

Walczak led Maine with 20 points and seven rebounds while Roberts added 15 points and seven rebounds.

Towson returns to action when Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play begins on Sunday, Jan. 6. The Tigers travel to Drexel for their CAA opener at 2 p.m.
