Towson

Drexel visits the Towson Center Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. for a CAA conference showdown when it's "Take A Kid To The Game Night." A child is admitted free when an adult purchases a ticket.

AN OLD RIVALRY: The Tigers and Dragons are facing each other for the 53rd time in a series that dates back 40 years to 1970. The Dragons lead the series 39-13. Since 1995-96 the two teams have met at least twice each year with Drexel winning 26 of those 31 contests. In games played from 1991 to 2002 Drexel beat the Tigers 15 straight times. The streak ended when the Tigers hung on for a 68-62 victory in the Towson Center in the 2001-02 season. That was Towson's first victory over a league opponent as a new member of the CAA. Towson is 7-18 against the Dragons in the Towson Center. Drexel won both regular season games last year but Towson came up with a key win in the CAA tournament, upsetting the 6th seeded Dragons 73-62. The Tigers stunned the Dragons with a 15-0 run to open the contest, and led by as many as 26 (36-10) as Towson secured the quarterfinal victory.

NIPPED: The Tigers came up short after an 18-2 rally erased a 14-point (54-40) deficit to put Towson ahead by two, 58-56, with 5:58 left ot play only to have James Madison bury a three-pointer from the deep corner with 1.5 seconds left to give the Dukes a 69-66 victory this past Saturday in Harrisonburg. There were three lead changes and three ties from there with the Dukes prevailing on Ben Louis' three-point basket. After the teams battled to tie the game at 66-66 with 1:37 remaining, the Tigers had an opportunity to earn the win in the final minute. But, they missed two field goal attempts to give James Madison the one final possession. Robert Nwankwo recorded his fifth "double double" of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Calvin Lee added 12 points with 7 rebounds. Jarrel Smith came off the bench with 13 points and 6 rebounds. The Tigers, who have been outmuscled on the boards most of the season and entered the game with a -6.5 rebounding margin, outrebounded the Dukes 46-30. It was just the 3rd time this season for Towson to win the battle of the boards in a game.

STREAK CUT SHORT: William & Mary put an end to Drexel's 2-game winning streak when the Tribe downed the Dragons 73-48. The Dragons shot a season-low 24 percent from the field. Drexel had just one field goal for a stretch of more than 17 minutes. Gerald Colds led the Dragons with 15 points. He was 11-for-16 from the line and made eight in a row at one point. Jamie Harris, Drexel's leading scorer, finished with 12 points. W&M shot 65 percent over the final 20 minutes. Harris has had five games with at least 20 points and had a career-high 32 points at Georgia State. He averages 15.3 points per game and 35.5 minutes of playing time, while Colds is also in double figures with 10.3 ppg. Samme Givens is Drexel's top rebounder with a 7.5 average. Georgia State is the only common opponent for Towson and Drexel thus far. The Dragons beat the Panthers 72-57 in Atlanta while the Tigers bowed to GSU 70-61 on the winners' court.
