RICHMOND, Va. - Despite a season-high 28 points from Shanae Baker-Brice, the Tigers fell to Virginia Commonwealth 75-51 on Sunday afternoon. Towson (8-6, 2-1 CAA) dropped its first Colonial Athletic Association contest of the year.

"I thought we struggled to find a rhythm early and it cost us in the end," said Coach Joe Mathews. "We need to find a way to perform consistently."

The Rams jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in the contest as Courtney Hurt scored six of the eight. A jumper by Baker-Brice at 15:54 made it a 12-4 game. VCU would stretch its lead to as much as 12 points before a Baker-Brice three-pointer at 11:44 made it a 20-12 game. The Rams would take a 31-17 lead with 5:27 to play in the half. Hurt hit a pair of free throws to make it, VCU's largest lead of the half. Baker-Brice would respond by scoring five straight points to cut the Rams' lead to 31-22. VCU scored eight of the final 15 points in the half to take a 39-27 lead at the half.

The Rams scored the first six points of the second half to extend their lead to 45-27. The two teams traded baskets over the next several minutes as a Meredith Kennedy trey at 9:49 made it a 58-42 game. Hurt scored four of the next six points in the game to give VCU a 62-44 lead with 8:09 to play. VCU scored 13 of the final 18 points in the game to claim the victory.

Baker-Brice's 28 points also matched her career-high. She added four rebounds, four assists and four steals. Dovile Miliauskaite led the Tigers on the boards as she grabbed eight rebounds while adding three points and a block. Haliena Snowden finished with six points and four rebounds for the Tigers.

VCU had two players record a "double-double" in the contest. Hurt finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds while D'Andra Moss contributed 19 points and 14 rebounds. La'Tavia Rorie was the third Ram in double figures with 11 points.

Towson returns home to host James Madison on Thursday, January 14 at 7 p.m.
