TOWSON, Md. - The Towson University Cheerleading squad placed third during Finals at the 2011 NCA Collegiate National Championship held in Daytona Beach, FL this past week. The Tigers who held the fourth spot after the preliminary round moved up to gain the third place spot after finals.
The fourth place finish in the preliminaries allowed the Tiger Cheerleaders to advance automatically to finals. Only the five highest scoring teams in the nine squad division advanced automatically to Finals.
After a rough preliminary performance, the Tigers pulled together and took the beach by storm. In only their second year in attendance, the Tiger Cheerleaders used a raw score of 9.042 to finish their season in third place. The cheerleaders' raw score was a significant increase from their 8.139 raw score, which led to their fourth place finish in 2010.
The TU Cheer squad received the highest dance score average of all their competition with 4.32 out of a possible 5. The cheerleaders also received high marks for their tumbling and stunts.
Towson's cheerleading program is a game-based squad that competes at Nationals every year. Towson Cheerleading is coached by Edy Pratt and Nick Santolla.
