BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Led by two victories from freshman Ayana Dow, the Tigers opened the Spring portion of their 2011-12 schedule with a 6-1 win over Lehigh University on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 3-1 on the season.
"It was nice to get a victory to start off the Spring season," Tiger Coach Doug Neagle said. "All of the girls came out a little tight and nervous, but they fought hard and we found a way to win."
After teaming up with sophomore Ariel Burke to earn an 8-6 win at number one doubles, Dow posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number six singles over Molly Brooks.
Sophomore Nani Lizana paired with junior Andrea Samlin for an 8-4 decision at number two doubles before Lizana posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Taylor Heupshire at number two singles. Meanwhile, Samlin earned a 6-0, 6-2 verdict over Gabby Drucker at number five singles.
In the number three doubles match, the Tigers earned the victory as sophomore Nisha Shah and freshman Cailey Easdale won by 9-8. Shah went on to earn a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Abby Farvell at number three singles.
In addition, sophomore Ioana Aprodu contributed to the victory with a three-set victory over Liz Piscitelli at number three singles (2-6, 6-1, 6-3).
Jenai Bilmoria earned the Mountain Hawks' lone win in the match at number one singles, defeating senior Aandria Carr in straight sets (6-1, 6-3).
The Tigers will return to action next Saturday evening with a CAA match against Hofstra at the Bare Hills Racquet Club at 6 p.m.
