RICHMOND, Va. - Towson signee Frank Mason put forth an impressive 37-point, 11-rebound performance to lead his Petersburg High School team past Kecoughtan in the Virginia State AAA semifinals Wednesday. Mason and the Crimson Wave will take on Hampton in the title game on Friday as the school will be looking for its first state title since 1974.
Mason, the Central Region Player of the Year, averages 24.2 points per game, but put on one of the best performances of his high school career Wednesday evening. Mason scored 37 points on 15-of-24 shooting and hit five of nine from beyond the arc.
The high school senior also grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out three assists and swiped a pair of steals in Petersburg's 77-56 victory. Mason was stellar from the opening tip, scoring 16 points in the game's first 3:41.
