WNST Brings A Great Deal to Towson Football

It was great to announce the partnership with WNST Radio last week, marking the move of Towson football broadcasts to a commercial radio station. It’s another step in the evolution of our program from participating in a non-scholarship level to competing in the top NCAA Football Championship Sub-Division conference in the country.

The move to WNST is much more than just the three-hour broadcast on 11 Saturdays this fall. In addition, Towson football will be a featured topic on the all-sports station. Head coach Gordy Combs will be a featured guest on many of the sports talk shows during the fall.  WNST also provides the ability to promote our football schedule throughout the fall. And, WNST play a major promotional partnership in at least one home game. And, of course, the games will be carried on WNST.net, providing exposure via the worldwide web.

For home games, we are planning a special 60-minute pre-game show, broadcast live from the Minnegan Room, overlooking the field as the team prepares for the game. We are planning to feature a scouting report from an assistant football coach, comments from another Towson head coach, a visit with one of the top professors on the Towson campus, an interview with a former Tiger and a special visit from a Baltimore sports legend. It will be a great way to get ready for kickoff!

It’s critical, in this time of transition for our program, that we use every resource available to let the Baltimore community know about the excitement around Towson football. WNST provides a great resource.

And there’s much to tell. Jermon Bushrod’s selection in the fourth round of the NFL draft made a statement. Sean Schaefer’s 303 yards per game, which led the nation last year, made a statement. A 7-4 record, which included back-to-back wins over Delaware and Villanova, made a statement. Our partnership with WNST will help deliver those statements, and the others that will be made this season, to the Baltimore sports community.

It’s been great to watch this football program grow – even in the short time that I’ve been on campus. The new Field Turf lights up the stadium with black and gold. We have plans to add even more color to the stadium. Our conference is preparing a TV announcement and I expect the news to be very good for our Tigers. We are just one year away from beginning competition with FBS opponents – Navy is the opener for the 2008 schedule.  The news is all very positive and moving our program in the right direction.

I hope all of our fans join us this year at Unitas Stadium for five great home dates and celebrate the college football experience. Of course, you can purchase football season tickets on our web site and individual game tickets beginning August 1. For those that cannot join us in person, plus those that will follow our team on the road, we now have a great partner in WNST and WNST.net to bring you that message. Have a great rest of the summer and we’ll see you August 30 at Unitas Stadium for the opener!
