Varsity Athletic Weight Room
In 1976 the 5,000 seat Towson Center Arena became the home of the Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball and Gymnastics teams. Inside the arena which has 165,000 square feet of floor space, there are class rooms, locker rooms, a research lab, a curriculum center, a fitness center, a varsity weight room, a sports medicine room, a gymnastics room, six racquetball courts and six squash courts. The facility houses nearly 75 faculty and staff members.
Along the west side of the arena is a 60-foot long elevated press box which can seat a dozen writers, facilitates two radio stations, and a camera crew. The arena has built-in concession areas, a ticket office, a large four-faced scoreboard suspended over the basketball court, and a message board.
The Varsity Athletic Weight Room was constructed in 1999 due to the generous contributions of several individuals including NFL and TU Alumni Dave Meggett, Sean Landeta and Tony Vinson. The weight room displays some of the finest equipment in today's market including, Olympic lifting platforms, Samson squat racks, an array of Cybex strength training machines, as well as dumbbell racks up too 150 lbs. The weight room also includes a full line of cardio equipment, along with medicine balls and physio balls.
Over the years the Towson Center has played host to numerous events such as concerts, receptions, the Central Maryland Job Fair, the Charm City Classic high school basketball tournament, the Battle of Baltimore college basketball tournament and several NCAA Division II regional tournaments.
