Johnny Unitas â Stadium
  • Donald “Doc” Minnegan Field

In 1999, Towson University began the massive project of renovating its stadium. Four years later, the 11,000 plus seat Johnny Unitas â Stadium now ranks as the third largest facility of its kind in the Metropolitan Baltimore Area behind M&T Bank Stadium and Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Unitas Stadium is named after legendary NFL Baltimore Colts quarterback Johnny Unitas, who passed away just weeks after becoming community liaison for the Towson University Athletic Department.

It is the home field for the Tiger Football, Field Hockey, Men’s & Women’s Lacrosse, and Men’s & Women’s Track and Field teams. Minnegan Field, named after long-time faculty member, athletic director and coach Donald “Doc” Minnegan, is an astroturf artificial playing surface.

The press box is located on the south side of the stadium and has a commanding view of the field. The four-level facility includes a hospitality suite, a press level, a public address booth, several camera decks as well as multiple radio and coaches booths. The hospitality suite is used by guests of the president as well as corporate sponsors of the athletic department. The press level can accommodate 35 members of the media and is equipped with phone and internet hook ups.

Concessions as well as restroom facilities are located on both the south and north sides of the stadium.

In addition to Towson events, the stadium has also been used for high school football and lacrosse events, the Under 19 World Lacrosse Championship, Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association Lacrosse Championships as well as competition in the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championships
