Five Tigers Earn All-CAA Women’s Soccer Honors

TOWSON, Md. – Towson women's soccer players Katie Ponce, Erin Quinn, Vasthy Delgado, Maddie Bove, and Hollie Garber each earned All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) postseason honors, the league announced today.

Ponce earned first team recognition, while Quinn received a spot on the second team, and Delgado was named to the third team. Bove received all-rookie honors and Garber's work in the classroom was honored with a place on the CAA All-Academic team. Ponce and Quinn have now earned All-CAA honors twice. It is Delgado's, Bove's and Garber's first league recognition.

"To have so many midfielders, backs and our goalkeeper recognized is a testament to how hard our team worked on the defensive side of the ball," said Head Coach Greg Paynter. "We had eight shutouts – the most in a season since 1997 – and then to have Vasthy and Maddie step up as the next generation of our defensive midfield and be honored for their roles is great.

"The fact Ponce and Quinn were recognized as seniors is not only a nod to their work this year but also their impact over the last three years," he continued. "It's also good to see Hollie get recognized for her hard work and dedication in the classroom as well as on the field."

Ponce led the Tigers with six goals and one assist for 13 points. She had three game-winning goals as a senior including one against Delaware in a match that turned out to be a key to Towson making the CAA Tournament for the first time in program history. She earned CAA Player of the Week honors for the week of Oct. 20 after scoring two goals in two games. She finished her career tied for 16th in career points at Towson (12g, 4a, 28pts).

Quinn finished her career as one of the finest goalkeepers to play at Towson. She backstopped the Tigers to a 3-0-2 record in their final five regular-season games and tallied seven shutouts in 2014. Quinn finished third at Towsont in saves (318), third in minutes (5251), tied for fourth in shutouts (9), eighth in save percentage (.752), and eighth in goals-against average (GAA) (1.80).

Delgado has been a defensive stalwart for the last three years. She started every match this season and posted her first career assist on Towson's second goal against William & Mary, a team the Tigers had never beaten. That win also propelled Towson into the CAA Tournament.

Bove started 15 matches as a true freshman and tallied 15 shots on the year from the backline, including a career-best five against College of Charleston. She earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors for the week of Oct. 27 after playing an integral role in Towson winning matches against Elon and William & Mary – both by the score of 2-0.

Garber played in all 19 matches, starting six. The junior tallied her first career assist in the Tigers' win over Radford and was a strong offensive option for Towson. She is a chemistry major who routinely posts one of the highest GPAs on a team that has received the NCAA Public Recognition award for academic achievement (programs that rank in the top 10 percent of NCAA Division I Academic Progress Reports (APR)) for two straight years.
