PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Towson men's golf team captured the Rutger's Invitational team title with a 14-under-par 838 (277-283-278) on Saturday. The Tigers finished 20 strokes better than the host Scarlett Knights.
Rutgers came in second at the tournament with 858 (284-285-289) while La Salle finished third with an 860 (292-283-285). La Salle's
PJ Acierno finished as the individual champion of the 84-player-field.
- Senior Ryan Siegler led the Tigers, finishing tied for second-place with a score of 208 (66-69-73), completing the tournament with a -5 scorecard.
- Junior Jimmy Grem finished 2-under-par, tying for fourth with a score of 211 (69-71-70).
- Junior Michael Chanaud recorded a team-low of 66 in the third round for the Tigers. He completed the tournament tied for seventh with a score of 212 (73-73-66).
- Freshman Dylan Stein placed 10th in his collegiate debut with a score of 214 (69-74-71) for a +1 scorecard.
- Junior Juan Veloza narrowly missed a top-10 finish, tying for 11th with a score of 215 (74-71-70). He had the second-best third round score among the Tigers.
"The guys played three solid rounds of golf," said head coach
Brian Yaniger. "With four guys at par or better in the important third round, we are looking to continue this type of play at Cornell.
"Ryan finishing tied for second-place is a real confidence builder as we go forward."
The Tigers returns to course at the Cornell Invitational from September 19-20 in Ithaca, N.Y. The Invitational will take place at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.
