TOWSON, Md. – Talk about making an immediate impact. Towson University freshman
Nicole Stockinger will always remember the opening weekend of her collegiate career.
A sports management major, Stockinger was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Freshman of the Week after shining like the sun for the Tigers. In her first collegiate action over the weekend at the Charleston Southern Tournament, Stockinger contributed offensively with a .375 average, four runs and three RBI as Towson opened its season with three wins in four outings.
The Olney, Maryland native added a pair of doubles in back-to-back wins over Georgetown and then capped the weekend by going 3-for-5 with a run and two RBI in a victory over IPFW. Her two-run single in the fifth inning tied the game at 4-4 and jumpstarted Towson's six-run game-altering outburst.
Stockinger enjoyed a marvelous high school career as she helped Olney win four straight Maryland 4A State Championships. She set single-season home run and all-time home run records for state of Maryland while tying the single-season triple record for state of Maryland. Stockinger was named the Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year
Towson returns to action this weekend when it competes in the Kickin' Chicken Classic hosted by Coastal Carolina. The Tigers will play Seton Hall and Cleveland State on Friday and conclude the weekend with games against Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina on Saturday.
