Field Hockey Announces 2016 Nonconference Schedule

TOWSON, Md. – Entering its fourth season under the leadership of head coach Carly Campana, the Towson University field hockey team has prepared a tough nonconference schedule for the 2016 season.

The Tigers, who finished 2-16 in 2015, will play 13 nonconference games this fall, including four of those contests at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium.

"The teams we play in our non-conference segment of the season are strong, aggressive, skilled and mentally tough," said Campana. "Each game will offer a unique challenge and a chance to rise to the occasion."

Towson opens the 2016 season on Aug. 26 with an away game at Longwood (7-10) at 3 p.m. The Tigers host their home opener that Sunday against Rider (12-7) for a 1 p.m. matchup.

The Tigers travel to Pennsylvania for a pair of games on Sept. 2 and 4. Towson faces off against Saint Francis University (10-7) at 4 p.m., followed by a noon game at Lock Haven (15-5).

Towson returns home for its only two back-to-back home games during the nonconference slate. The Tigers welcome La Salle (9-9) on Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. before hosting Ohio University (8-10) on Sept. 11 at noon.

The following weekend, Towson heads to Lafayette (9-10) for a 6 p.m. game on Sept. 16. The Tigers close out their home portion of the nonconference slate with a noon start against LIU Brooklyn on Sept. 18, as part of the Blackbirds' inaugural season.

The Tigers wraps up its nonconference schedule with five road matchups. Towson faces Villanova (5-12) on Sept. 25 at noon before heading to Lehigh (5-13) on Oct. 9 for a noon game. The Tigers defeated the Mountain Hawks 4-2 in Johnny Unitas ® Stadium last season.

Towson visits VCU (6-12) for a 5 p.m. game on Oct. 14 before heading north to face Princeton (11-7) on Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. The Princeton Tigers reached the 2015 NCAA Quarterfinals where they fell to the eventual national champion Syracuse.

The nonconference schedule concludes with a 1 p.m. start on Oct. 23 at Georgetown (8-11). Towson defeated the Hoyas 2-1 in overtime in 2015.

On June 22, the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) portion of the 2016 field hockey schedule will be released on TowsonTigers.com.
