TOWSON, Md. – Four members of the Towson University swimming and diving program will participate in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Swimming, held from June 26-July 3 at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Recent graduates
Hannah Snyder and
Jenna Van Camp will join rising senior
Nick Breschi and rising sophomore
Jack Saunderson at the Olympic Trials.
The event serves as the only selection meet for the U.S. Olympic Swim Team competing at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in the pool. Over 1,800 of the fastest swimmers in the country are expected to compete in the eight day event.
Snyder qualified in the 400-long course meter (LCM) individual medley with a time of 4:54.13. She earned the qualifying time at the 2015 Potomac Valley Swimming (PVS) Long Course Senior Championship last July. Snyder will be in action on the Trials' opening day, June 26.
Van Camp qualified in both the 100- and 200-LCM breaststroke events. She timed 2:33.44 in the 200-LCM breaststroke at the 2015 Annapolis Swim Club (ASC)/Retriever Aquatic Club (RAC) Sand Box Invitational last July. A few weeks later, she qualified in the 100-LCM breaststroke with a time of 1:10.06 and improved her 200-LCM breaststroke qualifying time to 2:32.43 at the 2015 PVS Long Course Senior Championship. Van Camp will be in action on June 27 in the 100-LCM breaststroke and June 30 in the 200-LCM breaststroke.
Breschi will compete in the 100-LCM backstroke after posting a qualifying time of 56.91 at the 2015 PVS Senior Long Course Championship. He will be in action on June 27.
Saunderson was the last Tiger to qualify for the Trials. He recorded a qualifying mark of 2:01.34 in the 200-LCM butterfly at the 2016 Virginia State Long Course (LC) Championship in May. The 200-LCM butterfly prelims will take place on June 28.
Only two Tigers have competed at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in the past; Melanie Rowland in 2012 and Aaron Krause in 2004. Rowland placed 65th out of 130 competitors in the 200-LCM butterfly with a time of 2:16.62 during the 2012 Trials.
