Total Team Effort Lifts No. 17/18 Tigers Over Georgetown, 13-8

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A balanced offensive attack and a season-high 10 saves from freshman Kiley Keating helped the No. 17/18 Towson University women's lacrosse team post a 13-8 win at Georgetown on Wednesday afternoon. For the fourth time this season the Tigers (2-2) had seven players score at least one goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • For the second straight game, the Tigers opened the scoring with a goal from junior midfielder Emily Gillingham at 29:37.
  • Goals from redshirt senior attacker Alyssa Ferro and junior midfielder Maddie Tribbe made it a 3-0 game in favor of the visitors with 24:52 left in the half.
  • The Hoyas (1-3) scored three of the next four goals in the game as the Tigers led 4-3 with 6:36 showing on the clock.
  • Junior midfielder Kaitlyn Montalbano scored a free position goal for the Tigers during that stretch.
  • Towson struck once more before the half as reigning Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week, sophomore attacker Carly Tellekamp scored off a quick pass from senior attacker Samantha Brookhart at 2:34.
  • The Tigers carried that 5-3 advantage into the half.
  • Senior midfielder Michaela Duranti got Towson on the board first to start the second half. Duranti's free position goal came at 28:36 and kick started a 5-0 run by the Tigers.
  • That run gave Towson a 10-3 lead with 21:33 to play in the game. The run by the Tigers featured a pair of goals from sophomore attacker Natalie Sulmonte. Brookhart added a pair of assists during that scoring stretch while Tellekamp contributed a goal and an assist.
  • Georgetown broke up the Towson run with a pair of free position goals that made it a 10-5 game with 17:45 left on the clock.
  • Sulmonte posted her first hat trick of the season with a free position goal at 17:18.
  • Ferro and Tribbe added their second goals of the game which gave Towson a 13-5 lead with 10:14 to play.
  • Georgetown scored the final three goals of the game which made the final score 13-8.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Keating became the first Tiger goalie with 10 or more saves in a game since Kelsea Donnelly had 16 against Johns Hopkins in 2015.
  • Maddy Fisher made 10 saves in the loss for Georgetown while Haelle Chomo made four saves in relief.
  • Towson has now four straight contests against the Hoyas.
  • The Tigers outshot the Hoyas 33-23 while each team won 11 draw controls.
  • Sulmonte led the Tigers with three goals, one assist, four draw controls and two groundballs.
  • Brookhart and Tellekamp each had three points in the game. Brookhart's three all came on assists while Tellekamp had two goals and an assist.
  • Freshman Olivia Conti led the defensive efforts with three caused turnovers while freshman Sami Chenoweth and senior Tianna Wallpher each had two caused turnovers.
  • Georgia Tunney had two goals and two groundballs to lead Georgetown.
 
After playing three straight games on the road, the Tigers finally return to Johnny Unitas® Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 26. Towson hosts local rival, Loyola at noon in a Battle for Greater Baltimore match.
