TOWSON, Md. – After posting its third 20-win season in the last four years, the Towson University men's basketball team has declined an invitation to compete in a postseason tournament despite being offered several opportunities to continue its season.
 
"We were appreciative of the invitations to participate in some of these great postseason events," Towson head coach Pat Skerry said. "It's a testament to the hard work of the players, staff and everybody associated with our program that we are in a position to be consistently considered for postseason opportunities. It's also a nice sign of respect for what we have done recently. However, in evaluating all of our options, while carefully weighing the pros and cons, we have made the decision not to continue our season."
 
Among some of the major highlights of Towson's 20-13 season was finishing third in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) for the second consecutive season, advancing to the semifinals of the conference tournament, having three players score their 1,000th career point, four players named to the All-CAA team, and winning 20 games for the second straight year, a feat accomplished for the first time as a Division I program.
 
With a current top-100 RPI against a challenging schedule, the Tigers rebounded from losing their first four conference games to win 12 of their final 16 games. That stretch featured a season-best six-game winning streak.
 
The Tigers also rallied from five double-digit deficits to win games this season. Towson also won a pair of thrilling overtime games.
 
As a team, Towson ranks in the top 50 nationally in offensive rebounds per game (14th, 13.42), rebound margin (8th, 7.9), free throw attempts (1st, 812), free throws made (10th, 556), total rebounds (9th, 1,227) and rebounds per game (24th, 39.5).
