Tigers Set Four School Records to Win Towson Invite

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University track and field program set four school records to win the 2017 Towson Invitational on Saturday inside Johnny UnitasĀ® Stadium. The Tigers recorded 214 points to finish first in the 16-team field. Delaware followed in second (187.50) while Weaton (Mass.) placed third (41.50).

Lauren Coleman threw a school record 14.48-meters (47'6.25") in shot put to finish second in the event. She improved on her previous school record performance of 46'1.50", set at the 49er Classic earlier this season.

The Tigers' 4x100m relay team of Liz Reid, Jamila Brown, Jaina McLean and Zanae Freeland won the event with a school record time of 45.87.

Megan Kelly won the 400m dash with a school record time of 54.25.

The Tigers' 4x400m relay team of Zanae Freeland, Liz Reid, Jamila Brown and Megan Kelly won the event with a school record 3:44.38.

How it Happened (Field Events)
  • Skyler Duncan won the javelin throw with a personal-best distance of 41.98m (137'9"). That ranks fourth all-time on the program's top 10 list. Kaeshelle Ford recorded a mark of 32.66m (107'2") to finish ninth.
  • Ksenia Safonova won the hammer throw with a mark of 59.63m (195'8"). That is a Towson University facility record and just shy of matching her school record distance (61.78m/202'8"). Lauren Coleman followed in second-place (48.12m/157'10"). Taylor Giles placed fifth with a personal-best distance of 45.90m (150'7"), which ranks seventh on the program's all-time list.
  • Naja McAdam tied for second in the high jump with a height of 1.55m (5'1").
  • In the pole vault, Towson took second and third. Brynn Warrington was the runner-up (3.55m/11'7.75") while Sarah Bourdon finished third (3.40m/11'1.75").
  • Lauren Coleman placed second in the shot put with a school record mark of 14.48m (47'6.25"). Ksenia Safonova recorded a personal-best to finish third (13.24m/43'5.25") and Taylor Weiss placed 12th also with a personal-best distance (11.68m/38'4"). Safonova's distance ranks fourth on the program's all-time list.
  • Taylor Weiss was the runner-up in discus with a throw of 41.63m (136'7"). Naomi Roth finished 17th (30.53m/100'2").

The Tigers splits its squad next weekend, traveling to Morgan State's Legacy Meet and Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational. Both meets will run April 21-22. Ā Ā
