Towson Looking To Get Back On Track At William & Mary

 
TOWSON, Md. – It's out of the frying pan and into the fire for the Towson University men's basketball team.
 
After a heartbreaking loss to Hofstra on Thursday, the Tigers have no choice but to regroup fast when they face their biggest challenge of the season at William & Mary in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) contest Saturday afternoon.
 
  • The Tribe have won five consecutive games and are 7-0 at Kaplan Arena this season.
  • William & Mary is the only unbeaten CAA team at 5-0.
  • William & Mary has at least a two-game lead on every team in the CAA.
  • Towson is 1-4 in road games.
  • William & Mary has won eight straight home games while Towson has dropped four consecutive road contests.
  • William & Mary has home wins over Hofstra and Old Dominion this season.
  • Towson sophomore Zane Martin has scored 20 points or more nine times this season.
  • Martin is averaging 20.8 points per game in Towson's last four road games.

Last Time Out For Towson
Towson had its 14-game home court winning streak ended with a 76-73 loss to Hofstra.The Pride won the game when Jalen Ray hit a 3-pointer as time expired. Justin Gorham led Towson with a career best 20 points and Zane Martin added 17 points for the Tigers, who shot 54.3 percent for the game. Towson was outscored, 19-6, in the final five minutes.    
 
A Look At William & Mary
W&M rallied from a 20-point first half deficit, a 17-point halftime hole and amazingly, a nine-point deficit in the final 55 seconds to beat James Madison, 89-82, in overtime on Thursday. Senior David Cohn and sophomore Nathan Knight led the Tribe with 21 points apiece. Knight was a perfect 12-of-12 from the charity stripe, while Cohn was 8-of-8. Sophomore Matt Milon finished with 18 points, and junior Paul Rowley added 13. Sophomore Justin Pierce pulled down a game and career-high tying 17 rebounds, including 16 in the second half and overtime. Knight, the current CAA Player of the Week, leads the Tribe in scoring (19.9 points per game) and rebounding (8.3).
 
Last Meeting Against William & Mary
Jordan McNeil and Deshaun Morman finished with 13 points each for Towson during an 83-79 loss on Feb. 25, 2017 at Kaplan Arena. Brian Starr and Zane Martin scored 10 points each as TU's rally from a 22-point second half deficit fell short. Towson pulled to within two points in the final minute. William & Mary took immediate control of the contest by scoring 18 consecutive points to open an 18-2 bulge 5:07 into the game. Nathan Knight scored 20 points for William & Mary.
 
Something Has To Give
William & Mary leads the CAA in scoring offense (87.2), field goal percentage (51.2) and 3-point field goal percentage (45.2). Towson leads the CAA in field goal percentage defense (40.1) and 3-point field goal percentage defense (31.6). Towson is also second in the conference in scoring defense (66.4). Offensively, the Tigers are behind W&M in field goal percentage (47.1) and 3-point field goal percentage (37.5). The Tribe are 5-0 in the CAA despite being ninth in scoring defense (79.1) and eighth in field goal percentage defense (47.5).
