TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team no-hit the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) regular season champion through five innings en route to an 8-3 victory to even the weekend series.
Brett Seils did not allow a hit through the first five innings as Towson (13-39, 3-19 CAA) built an eight run lead, including home runs from
Burke Camper and
Chandler Castleberry. Charleston (36-16, 19-4 CAA) scored three in the eighth, with Towson holding to earn the victory.
Key Stats:
- Brett Seils (2-1) earned the victory in his start, going five-and-a-third with no runs, one hit and five strikeouts. Cam Clark followed with one-and-two-third scoreless, striking out one.
- Two Tigers hit home runs in the game, begun by Burke Camper hitting a two-run homer in the second, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs and two RBI. Chandler Castleberry had a three-run home run in the seventh to finish 1-for-4.
- For Charleston, Trotter Harlan hit a home run in his second consecutive game, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Starter Trey Pooser (4-2) got the loss, allowing five runs and striking out five in six innings.
How It Happened:
- Towson scored the first runs on the game in a big way. Jack McLaughlin drew a full-count walk to begin the bottom of the second. Two batters later, Burke Camper drilled the first pitch over the center field wall for a two-run home run and a 2-0 Towson lead.
- As Brett Seils held down Charleston through the third, Towson added to its lead. Jake Lysaght grounded a single through the right side and took second on a sacrifice bunt. James Moses powered a ball into the right-center gap for a double, scoring Lysaght and made it 3-0 Towson.
- Seils had a no-hitter through five innings, which was broken up in the sixth on a ground ball single up the middle by Tyler Sorrentino. Charleston got runners on the corners with one out, then Cam Clark induced a 4-6-3 double play to keep the Cougars scoreless.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Camper grounded a ball down the left field line for a double with two away. Danny Becerra followed with a line drive single over the first baseman's head to score Camper. The next pitch, Jordan Peyton lined a single to right-center, then again on a first pitch, Lysaght bounced a ball down the third base line for a double, scoring Becerra. Towson led 5-0 after six.
- Towson's bats stayed hot in the bottom of the seventh. With one away, Elijah Dickerson got hit by a pitch, then McLaughlin drew a four-pitch walk. Chandler Castelberry drilled the ball to left field for a three-run home run and sent Towson up 8-0.
- Charleston broke its drought in the eighth with a two-out, three-run home run by Trotter Harlan. Towson held the rest of the way and won 8-3.

- Brett Seils has pitched four consecutive scoreless outings, combining for 14.1 innings. He has struck out 13 in that span.
- Burke Camper has tied for the team lead in home runs with Elijah Dickerson, hitting 10 home runs.
