In August, the Towson University Athletics department of athletics announced the 2022-23 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Executive Board for the year.
Brendan Farrar (men's swimming & diving) has been selected as the SAAC President for the second consecutive year.
Asia Goins (volleyball) will serve as Vice President.
Lauren Bolen (gymnastics) will serve as executive of social media and communications,
Bryce Frederick (baseball) was named executive for campus and community involvement while
Gabby Garrett (women’s lacrosse) was tapped as the executive for athletics initiatives.
Farrar, a senior elementary & special education major, has competed in a variety of events and distances during his career. During his sophomore season, when Towson captured the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship, he logged Towson’s third-fastest 500-yard freestyle of the year (4 minutes, 40.29 seconds) and the second-fastest 200-yard backstroke (1:51.20).
Goins, who served as Towson's NCAA/CAA SAAC Representative a year ago and was selected to the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, is a senior exercise science major. She has been part of three consecutive CAA championship teams. A defensive specialist, Goins set a career-high with 17 digs versus Elon her freshman campaign.
Bolen, a senior information system major, earned First Team All- East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) the last two seasons in the vault. Last year, she scored a career-high 9.875 on vault and beam against Pitt and scored a season-best 9.800 four times on floor exercise. She was named to the EAGL All-Scholastic Team, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 4.0 as a sophomore.
Frederick, a redshirt junior majoring in business administration, was the starting left fielder in 2022 until injury ended his season. He opened the season with a 2-for-5 night at No. 25 Miami and earned a spot on the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. He appeared in 30 games in 2021, hitting .273 with a .416 slugging percentage, which included a pair of three hit games.
Garrett, a senior cyber security major, scored 22 goals last season as a starting attacker. She scored a career-high three goals against Loyola and Saint Joseph’s and totaled seven multi-goal games. She scored game-winning goal in an overtime victory over Hofstra in overtime and finished the season with 30 points, tied for fourth on the team.
“We have an outstanding group of leaders within Towson Athletics and our executive board is the cream of the crop,” said
Terry Porter, Associate Athletics Director for Compliance Services. “They are committed to engaging, inspiring, and advancing the status of student-athletes outside of the playing field. I look forward to working beside them and feeding off their energy as they lead Towson’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.”
Towson's SAAC was developed for the following purposes:
•To streamline and promote efficient and effective communication between the Department of Athletics administration and the student-athlete population
•To design and implement programs that encourages academic achievement, health promotion, social responsibility and general life skills awareness
•To actively encourage more student-athlete involvement in campus and community outreach programs.
•To promote "togetherness" and support for all varsity teams by encouraging attendance at the athletic competitions of fellow student-athletes.
Student-athlete representatives are elected by their teams or appointed by the head coach. Representatives have considerable autonomy regarding the direction they wish to take the organization. SAAC representatives promote interaction of fellow student-athletes and are committed to becoming a positive force on the Towson University campus and in the community. Monthly meetings are open to all student-athletes. The SAAC Executive Board is elected by their fellow SAAC members.
