The Rhine River Cruise

Rise and shine! Our last day in Europe. After our last breakfast of bread, bread and more bread we boarded the bus for our Rhine River cruise.

On the cruise, while catching some much needed rays, we admired the old houses and castles. After an hour and a half of cruising we docked outside a small medieval German village. Following another Italian lunch, we boarded the bus and headed towards the vineyards.

After weaving in and out of the mountains we were given a guided tour of the winery. We learned how to make all different types of wine. However, the best was at the end when we got to taste the finished product.

We returned to the monestary for a fancy last dinner as an entire group. After some brief packing we all gathered in the bar for the last toast before we break for summer. I think I speak for the entire team that the memories we have made this past week will last forever. We were so fortunate to be given this opportunity and to have a wonderful tour guide as Cori.

Auf wiedersehen!

A Tour of the Vineyard

Hallo! Today we woke up for breakfast at 8:30 am for our good old bread, cheese and ham… fine dining. After breakfast we departed for Konigswinthur, Germany where we met our bus driver, Aach (or something similar to that). On the way he attempted to teach us history about the area, however we were sleeping within the first five minutes of the ride.

When we arrived to Konigwinthur, we boarded our private cruiser that toured the Rhine River and we learned about the famous WWII location. Nicole and Lindsey decided to go below deck and have a taste of the famous apple pie.

After the cruise, we stopped for lunch in Ahrweller, a medieval Roman walled village … ate an entire pizza (Italian restaurants are the only places we can understand) and then we headed to the winery.

The drive to the wine country was absolutely beautiful. When we arrived we had a guided tour and learned that the vineyards stretched for 300 acres and the biggest barrel alone held enough to provide wine for 24 years, drinking a glass a day.

Then headed back to the monestary for our farewell dinner. After we ate we had a heart to heart with Cori, our tour guide. We thanked her for giving us the time of our lives and for being an awesome guide.

Overall, this trip was a little more than perfect. Words can’t even express the time we had and the memories we will forever share. We have become closer as friends, and better as a team. In the end we found we had the time of our lives.
