Softball Drops Back-and-Forth Game 2 to Charleston

TOWSON, Md.  – The Towson University softball team played game two of its Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) series against Charleston on Friday. A back-and-forth game saw the Tigers fall 7-5 to the Cougars to set up a series rubber match on senior day.
 
Key Stats:
  • Alyssa Myint had a three-hit day to bring her to seven hits over the first two games of the series.
  • Myint's first hit of the day was the 100th of her career.
  • Isabella Canesi hit 2-3 with her seventh homer of the season and three RBIs.
  • Kaci Benton recorded a hit, an RBI and two walks.
  • Taylor Broadbent picked up a pinch-hit RBI single.
  • Amanda Medina receives the loss after pitching 2.1 innings out of the bullpen and allowing one hit and two unearned runs.
  • Jules Raymond earns the win after allowing three hits and one run over 2.2 innings of relief.
 
How it Happened:
  • Jessa Pieters started the game with a scoreless top of the 1st.
  • Alyssa Myint led off the bottom of the 1st with a single and the next batter Kaci Benton tripled to open the game's scoring. After a walk, Isabella Canesi singled to make it 2-0 Towson after one.
  • No runs crossed in the 2nd, then Charleston used a triple of its own to tie the game 2-2 in the top of the 3rd.
  • Benton walked to lead off the bottom of the 3rd and with one out Canesi hit a homerun to restore Towson's two-run lead.
  • The Cougars responded by scoring a pair of runs in the top of the 4th to once again tie the game.
  • A leadoff walk in the top of the 5th led to Charleston taking a 5-4 lead via an RBI groundout.
  • A pair of walks in the bottom of the 5th brought pinch hitter Taylor Broadbent to the plate who singled with two-outs to tie the game 5-5.
  • Both sides went down in order in the 6th.
  • A pair of Towson errors lead to the Cougars taking a 7-5 lead in the top of the 7th.
  • Alyssa Myint started off the bottom of the 7th with a single but the Tiger's couldn't rally further and lost 7-5 to Charleston.
 
 
Up Next:
Game three of the series between the Tigers and the Cougars will be played at 1 p.m. tomorrow, May 2. The game will also serve as senior day for Towson.
